Aaron Hughes & James Downham - Highway of Heroes (2009)

"Highway of Heroes" was recorded in Napanee, Ontario in September 2009 and released in time for Remembrance Day.

The song, written by long-time friends Aaron Hughes and Scott Campbell, is a moving tribute to the brave men and women in the Canadian Armed Forces serving in Afghanistan who put their lives on the line to protect our country, and to preserve peace and democracy around the world.  Particularly, the song is meant to honor the soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. "Highway of Heroes" refers to the stretch of Highway 401 along which the bodies of fallen soldiers returning to Canada are driven. This is where Canadians started to gather on bridges along the route to wave flags in honour of our fallen. In 2007, this stretch of road was officially renamed the "Highway of Heroes."

It has been a tremendous honor for us to be able to thank, through our song, our troops. We owe our freedom to their sacrifice. This is the video for "Highway of Heroes" recorded in September.
