KOI Music Festival will be taking place over three days in 2015. The weekend of September 25 – 27 will see downtown Kitchener transform into a musical mecca.
The purpose of the festival is, and has always been, to put the Kitchener-Waterloo area on the national music map. The city has loads of undiscovered and under-appreciated talents, so KOI is a way to showcase the city while offering exposure for the local bands that have helped them create this vibrant music scene.
A solid foundation has helped establish KOI as one of Ontario’s premiere independent music festivals. 2010 had 135 bands at 9 indoor venues and 2 outdoor stages as well as a large outdoor vendor park. 2011 grew in attendance and scope with the introduction of a larger outdoor main stage area complete with beer garden. 2012 continued with the tradition of growth and expanded to a three day event with a free concert on the Friday, the traditional festival on the Saturday with 150 bands and movie screenings on the Sunday. 2014 was the largest festival and 2015 is looking to be another exceptional year. Friday night will be a paid event this year but feature a larger artist than past years. Saturday will be the traditional festival, however this year the main stage will be rocking on the Sunday as well. Additional brunch shows are planned for Sunday after sold out events that past two years.
